FAQ

What is the Shared Memory Project?

Shared Memories is a Mellon Foundation Public Knowledge program grant-funded project to preserve the history and culture of the Southeastern Colorado region, with an emphasis on historically underrepresented cultures and peoples, through the deployment of digital memory labs.

Can anyone contribute?

Anyone with material relevant to the history of the region is welcome to contribute.

How long will my material stay up?

Material contributed to the Shared Memory Project will stay available indefinitely.

Can I delete my content after I have contributed?

Requests for deletion will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Please note that even if your material is deleted from the Shared Memory Project, any use that has taken place under your selected Creative Commons license can legally continue.

Can I change the Creative Commons License I chose after I have submitted my material?

No.  Creative Commons licenses are irrevocable.  They cannot be changed or "taken back" once the work has been published and licensed with a Creative Commons license.  Future contributions can use a different license if desired, but this will not affect existing contributions.

Who can see my material?

Any and all material contributed to the Shared Memory Project is publicly available on the internet.

Is my name public alongside my material?

We ask that you include your name with your submitted materials to ensure proper attribution under your chosen Creative Commons license. The only exception is if you choose the CC0 Public Domain Dedication. With this license, you give up all copyright to your work, and it becomes part of the public domain. Because no attribution is required for CC0, your name will not be attached to the materials.

What can I contribute?

Community members can contribute photographs, moving images, audio, and text to the Shared Memories Project.

Is there anything I am not allowed to contribute?

The following is not allowed to be contributed:

  • Obscene material (pornography, gore, etc.)
  • Material you do not own the copyright to
  • Material not relevant to Southern Colorado Region
